Tengrinews.kz – French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of the government following a no-confidence vote, according to an announcement by the Élysée Palace on social media platform X.
"The Prime Minister today submitted the government's resignation, and the President of the Republic has accepted it," the statement read.
Until a new government is formed, Prime Minister Michel Barnier and his team will handle ongoing affairs in a caretaker capacity.
The government, led by Michel Barnier, was formed only at the end of September. It took President Macron nearly three months to appoint a new prime minister following parliamentary elections in which no party secured an absolute majority.
According to the French Constitution, the president can call new parliamentary elections only one year after the last elections, which took place in July. This marks only the second time since 1962, when the government of Georges Pompidou was dismissed, that such a situation has occurred, reports RBC.
Barnier's resignation follows a no-confidence vote passed by the French Parliament.
