Tengrinews.kz – A local videographer from Kokshetau captured stunning footage of the Ulgulinsky Canyon and the "Omir suı" ("Water of Life") waterfall. The video caught the attention of internet users.
The author of the video, Serikbai, shared that he visits the area several times a year.
“This place is quite well-known among locals. The peak of visitor activity is in April–May, when the snow melts and the canyon is almost completely filled with water. I personally come here at least 2–3 times a year,” he said.

Where the canyon and waterfall are located
According to Serikbai, the location is well known among Kokshetau residents. He clarified that the canyon is located in the Zerendi district of Akmola Region.
“Getting here is easy — it’s just 80 kilometers from the city of Kokshetau. I filmed this video about 10 days ago. Usually, I also capture it during its most active phase — in late April,” he noted.
Serikbai emphasized that the uniqueness of the place lies in being able to see both a canyon and a waterfall in one location:
“It’s truly an unusual place — the power of the waterfall, the pine forest all around, clean air, beautiful nature. People love to relax here: have picnics, grill kebabs, all in harmony with nature,” he summarized.
What the experts say
According to the Kokshetau Nature Park, "Omir suı" is the official name of the waterfall, while "Ulgulinsky" is its popular local name.
“The most active period is during the spring snowmelt, when the Chaglinka River turns into a rushing stream, and the 'Ömir suı' waterfall becomes especially powerful and beautiful. The sound of falling water can be heard from afar, creating a sense of living nature and elemental force,” the park stated.
They clarified that the name "Ömir suı" translates from Kazakh as "Water of Life":
“This name perfectly conveys the atmosphere of this unique corner of nature, where water, stone, and forest exist in harmony,” the park noted.
Is there an entrance fee
The park clarified that the waterfall area belongs to Intisar-Invest LLP, and entrance is free:
“According to the general infrastructure development plan of the Kokshetau National Nature Park, the site is listed as the 'Ömir suı' waterfall. The land plot is under long-term use by Intisar-Invest LLP, and no entry fee is charged,” the organization explained.
How to get to the canyon and waterfall
According to the park, the waterfall is accessible by car via the Kokshetau–Atbasar highway.
“The distance from Kokshetau to the waterfall is 81 km. You can reach it via the Kokshetau–Atbasar road, passing through the villages of Zerenda, Krasny Kordon, Baiterek, and Karsak. About one kilometer past Karsak, a gravel road branches off from the highway and leads directly to the 'Omir suı' waterfall,” the national park said.
They added that the waterfall becomes more tranquil in summer, but no less attractive:
“The cool water streams refresh the air, creating a pleasant microclimate. This spot is popular among both tourists and locals — people come here to relax, admire nature, have a picnic, or simply enjoy solitude,” the park concluded.
