The male and female tigers have been brought in to help restore the population of Turanian tigers in Kazakhstan.

"These are Amur tigers, which are suited to live in harsh climatic conditions," the statement noted.

The Ministry of Ecology of Kazakhstan shared a video of the newly arrived tigers.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Erlan Nysanbayev previously announced plans for the reintroduction of tigers in Kazakhstan. He stated that two tigers were scheduled to arrive from the Netherlands in September, with an additional three to four expected from Russia next year.

In 2021, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the initiative for tiger reintroduction. The Ili-Balkhash Reserve, established in 2018 and spanning over 415,000 hectares, is designated as a habitat for these big cats, where the ecosystem is being restored to support them.
