Tengrinews.kz — Scientists have reported increased solar activity after recording a powerful flare on the Sun.
The data was provided by the Heliogeophysical Service of the E.K. Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics in Russia.
“On June 21 at 10:29 p.m. Moscow time — 12:29 a.m. Kazakhstan time — an M6.8 flare lasting 18 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range in sunspot group 4473 (S08E55),” the statement said.
According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it was the strongest flare of the day.
A total of seven solar flares of class C or higher occurred on June 21: five class C flares and two class M flares.
Meanwhile, the Heliogeophysical Service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics said that predominantly moderate flare activity is expected on June 22. However, class X flares are possible. The geomagnetic field will remain calm, with occasional periods of instability.
Earlier, scientists recorded an unusual phenomenon on the Sun — a “black explosion.” It was reported that part of the ejected material would enter the atmosphere, cool, settle in rocks and oceans, and also be absorbed by plants.
