Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh photographer Dmitry Dotsenko captured a breathtaking view of the largest supermoon of the year rising over Kazakhstan’s tallest building, the Abu Dhabi Plaza in Astana.
On the night of September 17, Earth’s residents witnessed another supermoon eclipse, as part of the Moon passed through Earth’s shadow. The supermoon appeared 14% larger than usual, creating a spectacular sight.
"I managed to capture these October supermoon shots last night. It seems I’ve found a spot where you can almost reach the moon – it’s Abu Dhabi Plaza in Astana, the tallest building in Kazakhstan, standing at 311 meters with 75 floors. Did you catch the supermoon?" Dotsenko wrote on his Instagram.
A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth, about 363,711 kilometers away (compared to the usual distance of 384,472 kilometers), making it appear significantly larger and brighter.
While the Moon reaches this point, known as "perigee," every 27 days, supermoons happen only three to four times a year.
