Tengrinews.kz - A flock of gray flamingos has arrived at Lake Karakol near Aktau, as captured in a video shared by blogger Azamat Sarsenbayev.
The arrival of the birds at their traditional stopover, Lake Karakol, did not surprise the residents of Aktau, but their gray plumage did raise eyebrows. Sarsenbayev, who has been tracking the migration of flamingos in Kazakhstan, explained this phenomenon.

"The gray is the natural color of flamingos; they are born with this color. As they grow and through their diet - consisting of algae and small crustaceans that contain specific pigments - they gradually develop the familiar pink and red hues," he noted.
Sarsenbayev highlighted that the birds typically arrive in the Mangistau region twice: from mid-September to late November and again from early March to mid-May.
Pink flamingos are common visitors in Kazakhstan, migrating from the Mangistau region to the village of Korgalzhyn in Akmolinskaya region.
