Tengrinews.kz – Photos of a fox spotted by staff in the Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve have gone viral online. Surprisingly, the animal was not frightened by people and calmly allowed them to approach, making it possible to take several great shots. Moreover, the fox appeared to deliberately pose for the inspectors.

Photos

The Korgalzhyn Reserve provided a series of vivid autumn images featuring the fox. The animal was captured from various angles.

The fox stands against a backdrop of golden foliage, seemingly posing consciously for the camera.

What the reserve says

The press service of the Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve reported that the photos show a red fox (Vulpes vulpes). The images were taken by science department inspectors who encountered the animal during field research in the protected area.

The red fox is characterized by relatively large size, a slender body, and a thick, bushy tail with a white tip. Its fur is most often reddish-brown, with a darker back and noticeably lighter chest and belly. A narrow elongated snout and large pointed ears with dark outer coloring are also key traits distinguishing it from the smaller corsac fox, which has paler, sand-colored fur.

The red fox is not listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book, as its population remains stable across the country. According to the reserve, more than 300 individuals currently inhabit the protected territory.

Earlier, in the Almaty region, a forest dormouse—listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book—was successfully photographed. This small nocturnal rodent is extremely rare and considered a poorly studied species under threat of extinction. More details about this animal can be found at this link.
