Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Dulati Avenue in Almaty have reported pollution in the Bolshaya Almatinka River. According to them, sewage is being dumped into the river, which is devastating its aquatic life.
Locals sent a video to Tengrinews.kz, recorded on September 1, showing a murky river. The footage also captured a fish — it had jumped ashore and was convulsing.
“Someone discharged sewage — the fish are dying, suffocating in this filth. The water is muddy-black and smells like a septic tank,” said the person behind the video.
The Tengrinews editorial team reached out to Almaty’s Department of Ecology for comment.
“We have collected water samples and identified the source of pollution — a burst in the main sewage pipe at Dulati 224. We are currently working to identify the owner of the network,” the department stated.
Earlier, another local river — Vesnovka — turned orange. The Ministry of Ecology explained that the discoloration resulted from cleaning work on the water flow stabilizer.
