About 3900 trees will be cut because of construction of six new road junctions in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Gani Myrzakhanov, Passenger Traffic and Motor Ways Department’s deputy director. According to him, 700 trees will be replanted after the cutting. “9500 trees will be planted to compensate the damage. Another 5000 trees will be planted additionally. We plan to finish the construction of six transport road junctions by the next year. They will be located at: Khaliullin Street – corner of Kuldzhinskiy highway; Raiymbek avenue – Momyshuly Street; Al-Farabi avenue – Rozybakiyev Street; Al-Farabi avenue – Dulati Street; Sain Street – Toraygyrov Street; Sain Street – Zhubanov Street. Preparatory works are underway at four construction sites already. The main construction phase is underway at two sites. “Construction of the six road junctions will cost about 20 billion tenge ($135 million). This will cover construction and installation works. However there will be also some more preparatory works including buildings demolition and redemption of land properties. These works will cost about 10-12 billion tenge ($81 million),” Myrzakhanov said. After completion of Al-Farabi-Dulati road junction the number of traffic lanes will increase to ten. There will be three lanes in one direction, three more lanes in another direction in the tunnel part and two local off-ramps. Besides, the city’s authorities plan to construct eight above-ground and two underground pedestrian cross-walks by April 2012 along the Eastern By-Pass Road.
