Around 15 million of young carps were released in Vyacheslav dam lake in Akmola oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Ministry of Environmental Protection. Another 300 thousand underyearling carps will be released into the dam lake later this year. The measures are called to increase the water reservoirs’ fish reserves, as well as to form recreation areas for sport and amateur fishing within 100km around Astana, the press-release writes. There is also a plan to stock up water reservoirs close to the capital with precious species of fish. This year’s plan is to release the total of over 158 million fish juveniles of such precious species such as sturgeons, whitefish, carps, grass and silver carps. It is also part of the project called Retaining and reproduction of fish resources and other water animals. The program is implemented by fish breeding companies of the Fishery Commission of Kazakhstan Environmental Protection Ministry to supply the country’s water reservoirs with fish. Kazakhstan’s fish fauna currently has 107 types of fish. By the end of 1980s the actual fish catch in the country’s water reservoirs made 85-95 thousand tons, including 45-50 thousand tons in the Ural-Caspian basin. The catch in the last years lowered over a half. Carp are various species of oily freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae, a very large group of fish native to Europe and Asia.
