Residents of Almaty have had an unpleasant surprise this morning. A break in a water pipline caused flooding of Al Farabi avenue near Nurly Tau residential complex, Tengrienws reports citing the press office of Holding Almaty Su, the city's water supplier.

The pipline break happened at around 7:30 a.m. and took almost the entire afternoon to mend. The ruptured pipe was cut from the city's water supply network only at around 9:00 a.m. after it released tons of water - cold water, luckily - onto the pavement and causing a large traffic jam.

The rupture was located at the isolation valve on the cold water pipe supplying Nurly Tau complex so all the houses located inside the Furmanov-Gandi-Zheltoksan-Alfarabi streets block spent almost the whole day cut off from cold water supply.
