Tengrinews.kz – A mine collapse occurred at the Zhomart mine in the Zhanaarka district of Ulytau Region, which is operated by Kazakhmys Corporation, leaving seven workers trapped.
The Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that the workers remain beyond the collapsed zone, with rescue operations currently underway.
Emergency response teams from the regional Department of Emergency Situations and Karaganda Region have been deployed to the site, including search-and-rescue dog units, medical specialists from the Disaster Medicine Center, and MES psychologists.
"Rescue operations are being conducted by the emergency teams of 'ASS Seriktes'," the ministry stated.
An operational headquarters has been set up at the MES Command Center and the Ulytau DES, while a hotline has been established for inquiries.
According to Kazakhmys, the mine collapse occurred at the shaft excavation section of the Zhomart mine.
"As a result, seven workers remain trapped behind the debris. Due to cable damage, there is currently no communication with them," the company's statement read.
