An accident has happened at one of the drilling rigs on artificial island D of Kashagan oil field in Kazakhstan's sector of northern Caspian Sea, Atyrau oblast Emergency Situations Department told Mgorod.kz. These is no information on the scale of the accident yet. Representatives of the oblast's department only reported that “drilling gear has bended at the rig and fittings broke down because of excessive load”. The accident did not pose any threat to the environment, they said. Agip KCO and NCOC refused to comment the accident, saying that the journalists had to submit an official request. According to the website, the accident happened on March 2, the day when the managing director of Agip KCO Umberto Carrara met with Akim (Governor) Atyrau oblast Baktykozha Izmukhambetov. The parties agreed at the meeting that production in Kashagan would start in June 2013.
