Wreckage of AN-72 plane
First deputy director of the Border Control Service of Kazakhstan National Security Commission Abai Brekeshev was appointed acting head of the authority, Tengrinews.kz reports citing chairman of Kazakhstan National Security Commission Nurtai Abykayev as saying at the briefing in Shymkent. Brekeshev will temporarily replace Turganbek Stambekov who died in the plane crash on December 25. Military plane AN-72 of the Border Control Service of Kazakhstan National Security Commission crashed at 06:55 p.m. on December 25, 20km from Shymkent airport. The plane had 7 crew members and 20 militarymen onboard, including the acting head of the Border Control Service of Kazakhstan National Security Commission Turganbek Stambekov. Mr. Stambekov was appointed the Acting Head of the Border Control Service of the National Security Committee back in July after Vice Head of the National Security Committee Nurzhan Myrzaliyev resigned following the much-covered-in-the-media mass murder at Kazakhstan's Arkankergen post on the border with China.
