Tengrinews.kz - The results of the laboratory investigation into the mass food poisoning of schoolchildren in the Mangystau region have been revealed, according to Lada.kz.

The Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control reported that specialists from the National Center of Expertise in Mangystau conducted an unscheduled epidemiological inspection. Samples of prepared food, water, and from kitchen staff were taken for bacteriological testing.

According to the findings, the sanitary-epidemiological investigation of the school cafeteria uncovered significant sanitary violations:

  • laboratory tests of the prepared food products (mashed potatoes, chicken cutlets, sauce, and compote) confirmed the presence of pathogenic bacteria;
  • in 20 percent of the collected swab samples, the presence of intestinal bacteria was confirmed;
  • as a result of bacteriological testing of 10 staff members, one medical worker, and one individual entrepreneur working in the school cafeteria, six specialists were found to be carriers of staphylococci;
  • laboratory tests confirmed that a cafeteria worker (a dishwasher) was a carrier of bacterial dysentery. This worker also performed the role of a food distributor, thus contaminating the food;
  • during the inspection of personal medical records, it was found that four cafeteria workers had undergone falsified medical examinations. A letter regarding this issue has been sent to the regional prosecutor's office and the regional department of internal affairs.

"Currently, the Munaily District Police Department has initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 304 of the Criminal Code, and a pre-trial investigation has begun. These conditions have led to the outbreak of cluster bacterial intestinal infections," noted the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Mangystau region.

To recall, a mass poisoning incident occurred in the village of Besshoky. The incident took place at School No. 8, where first to fourth-grade students in the first shift suffered food poisoning in the school cafeteria.

Earlier, it was reported that all 98 students who were hospitalized due to food poisoning have been discharged. The children received treatment in the infectious diseases ward of the regional multidisciplinary children's hospital, were discharged home, and are now under outpatient observation at their place of residence.
