Military police have started investigations into operations of the border control officers at the Atyrau international airport after a Hungary citizen committed suicide, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports, citing Military Prosecutor of the West Region Talgat Bekbergenov as saying December 11.

The 42-year-old Hungarian, a construction worker with a foreign company servicing the giant Tengiz oilfield, flew from Atyrau to Istanbul and further on to Ukraine after his work contract expired November 23.

However, Ukrainian border control officers suggested he had a fake passport as the passport photo was allegedly excessively blurred. The Hungarian was sent back to Turkey, from where he was sent back to Atyrau November 27. According to the Military Prosecutor, the man had been kept in the border control zone for three days before he committed suicide November 30.
