Tablet computers in Kazakhstan schools by 2012

School children in Kazakhstan will be provided with tablet computers by 2020. This was announced by Education Minister Bakytzhan Zhumagulov on 3 November at the V International Forum on IT Development in Education, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Developing up-to-date infrastructure is determined by introducing tablet computers in schools, reaching the ratio one computer per one pupil. It is planned to supply 83 thousand tablet computers and notebooks for secondary schools in Kazakhstan by 2020. And this is by the government alone,” Zhumagulov said. The Minister of Education and Science shared the forecasts: the number of (schools) applying IT in teaching will be 50% by 2015, and over 90% by 2020.” Today 9,300 disabled children cannot attend schools. Starting of this year the government will provide three thousand such children with computers, access to the Internet and software annually. We will address this issue completely in three years’ time, and we have allocated 600 million tenge”, the Minister reported. Bakytzhan Zhumagulov brought up the data from UNESCO. In the past three years Kazakhstan has been in the top four countries by education for all index. According to official sources 95% of subjects have been digitalized. The universities have released over 7 thousand electronic textbooks, 690 problem books, 50 persent of educational institutions have interactive classrooms and equipment. 98 percent of schools have access to the Internet.
