Tengrinews.kz - Majilis Deputy Amanzhol Altai has proposed introducing a new school subject dedicated to the study of Kazakhstan's intangible cultural heritage.

During a session of the Committee on Social and Cultural Development, Altai emphasized the importance of developing a dedicated law to safeguard intangible cultural heritage, drawing from international practices.

"We need to discern what is beneficial, valuable, or irrelevant. Intangible cultural heritage must be proudly protected and preserved (...) It should be included in the school curriculum. This will engage young people in preserving our cultural heritage. There is much work ahead," Altai stated.

The proposed subject would cover elements such as the Kazakh language, proverbs, sayings, folktales, traditions, and customs, highlighting their importance in maintaining the country's cultural identity.

Previously, Majilis Deputy Yerbolat Satybaldin supported the idea of drafting a law to protect intangible cultural heritage. He suggested including penalties for disrespecting aspects of Kazakhstan's cultural heritage.
