More than 52 thousand Astana kids are in queues to get into kindergartens, Tengrinews.kz reports. The Akim (Mayor) of Astana city told about the city’s social and economic development results in 2011 during the summary meeting with the citizens on February 9. “This year we have already started construction of ten kindergartens. The construction is funded from the estate budget. This will create 3000 new places. Private kindergartens and children's centers are also being opened. "The situation is very interesting. On the one hand I am glad that we have such a high birth rate, on the other hand it triggers relevant problems. 8 thousand children were queuing for kindergarten places in 2006. 28 thousand kids were waiting for their turn to get into kindergartens in 2008. And there were 52 thousand children on January 1, 2012. And all this is in spite of Bolashak presidential program being implemented at rapid pace,” Imangali Tasmagambetov said. The Akim of Astana city explained the lack of places in kindergartens by saying that 19 thousand children were born in the capital in 2011. An inflow of migrants also played a significant role. Astana citizens often complain about the lack of places in kindergartens at the official website of the city Mayor, Imangali Tasmagambetov said. According to the official data 83 kindergartens were put into operation in Astana during 2010-2011 period. The first specialized kindergarten for 156 children suffering from ICP (Infantile Cerebral Paralysis) was opened in Astana in 2011.
