A student from Kazakhstan's Pavlodar has won the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Tengrinews reports citing the regional Education Department of Pavlodar.

The Olympiad organized by Baku branch of the Moscow State University was held on July 20-29. This year’s graduate of Kazakh-Turkish Lyceum in Pavlodar Adil Kabylda became the winner of the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad.

330 young talents from 75 countries of five continents took part in the Olympiad along with over 250 experts, observers and team leaders.

The competition was held in several stages, during which the participants demonstrated not only their knowledge of chemistry theory, but also their practical skills.

The students had five hours to solve problems at each stage of the competition, which required lateral thinking skills. A participant could get a maximum of 100 points for both the theoretical exam and the laboratory work.

Their examination papers were graded by an international jury panel consisting of world-renowned chemists as well as Nobel Prize winners.

“It was very hard to be recognized by the chemistry experts. Adil Kabylda did an excellent job in solving the problems. It is a huge victory for us and we are very proud of our region’s graduate to come so far. We are confident he has a lot to accomplish in future,” the regional Education Department said.

The tutor of Adil Kabylda is a young teacher Almas Ordabayev, 25. He is a graduate of Moscow State University. He also shared Adil’s success. “Intellectual victories of Adil is the first contribution in making his dream to engage in science come true,” his mentor said.

Last year, Adil Kabylda also become the silver prize winner of the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Moscow, whereas this year he won the gold at the National Subjets Olympiad.

Besides, Adil is a holder of Moscow State University’s scholarship.
