Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan has commented on the situation involving the expulsion of Kazakh students from Harvard University.

What happened

Recently, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump banned Harvard University from accepting foreign students. This decision came after the university refused to provide records of foreign students' behavior requested by the Department of Homeland Security last month. As a result, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem ordered her department to revoke the certification of Harvard’s student and exchange visitor program.

In a statement, the department said that Harvard "can no longer admit foreign students, and current foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status."

At the same time, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Olzhas Berkinbayev, commented on the matter on his Facebook page.

"As of today, seven students are studying at Harvard under the 'Bolashak' program. We have no information about students studying under other programs or at their own expense," Berkinbayev wrote.

He added that the ministry will send inquiries regarding students who are studying through other programs or funding their education independently.
