75 Almaty schools to transit to 12-year education cycle in 2015

Preparation for transition to the 12-year schooling is a priority for Almaty education system, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Rakhat Shimasheva, head of Almaty Education Department. 75 Almaty schools are planning to transit to the 12-year education in 2015, Almaty municipal authorities announced at the recent hearing. There are 554 educational institutions in Almaty, with 270,000 children studying and 22,000 teachers working in them. There are 202 kindergartens in Almaty, including 4 large kindergartens built in 2010. Special priority is going to be attached to development of preschool education in 2012. According to Tuleubek Mukashev, Almaty Maslikhat (municipal administration) secretary, it is very difficult to open a private preschool institution in Almaty, because requirements are very high. 37.5 billion tenge were allocated from the city budget for education in 2011; this is 27 percent more than in 2010.
