Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan intends to increase oil supplies through Georgia, according to the Akorda press service.

This became known during talks between the President of Kazakhstan and the Prime Minister of Georgia, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan values its long-standing friendly relations with Georgia, describing it as a reliable, time-tested partner in the South Caucasus.

He also expressed confidence that the Joint Statement on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership, to be signed today, would elevate Kazakh-Georgian relations to a qualitatively new level. The President emphasized that trade and investment cooperation remains the foundation of relations between Kazakhstan and Georgia.

“Despite global instability, bilateral trade has the potential for further growth. Kazakhstan has invested more than half a billion dollars in Georgia’s economy and remains among the country’s largest investors. Our states maintain successful cooperation in the energy sector. We intend to increase the volume of oil transportation through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Active work is being carried out within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economy. I hope that today’s meeting will help identify new priorities for the future,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The parties confirmed their mutual interest in the further implementation of mutually beneficial investment projects.

“As key participants in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), the countries intend to take consistent measures to develop transport and logistics infrastructure, expand container transportation, coordinate tariff policy, and accelerate digitalization,” the Akorda press service noted.

Note: Over the past five years, the volume of transit transportation along the TITR has increased by 3.5 times. By 2029, the number of container trains operating on the route is expected to reach 3,000.

In addition to the port of Batumi, Kazakhstan is interested in expanding its presence in other Georgian port zones. In particular, a new multimodal terminal was opened in Poti last year with the participation of Kazakh investors. Another promising project for strengthening interregional ties is the Anaklia Port.

Digitalization and artificial intelligence were also identified as promising areas of cooperation.
