All consequences of the windstorm that hit Almaty on May 17 will be eliminated within two days, Almaty Akim press-service reports. According to Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the disaster fell 93 trees in Almaty and another 512 trees in Medeo area near the mountains. Experts say that around 5 thousand trees (the exact number is being defined) were beat down in the Small Almaty Gorge. Some areas are cut off with no electricity. Repair and clean up works were performed during night and damages were partly repaired by morning. “The losses caused by the disaster, including the fallen trees blocking the Shymbulak road and blackouts, will be eliminated within two days. As for Ili-Alatau park area and Medeo regional state park, they require a lot of work. Currently experts are working to estimate the extent of the damage,” Yessimov said. After finishing the clean up the fallen trees, the city services will start working to restore the vegetation in the damaged areas.
