On October 8, the Organized Crime Control Department carried out the arrest of a youth group that provided criminal protection to entertainment venues as a result of operational measures. Information was obtained about their involvement in extortion, hooliganism, and illegal possession of weapons.
On October 11, members of another criminal group involved in extorting money from Shymkent entrepreneurs were arrested. They demanded up to three million tenge for their criminal protection; otherwise, they exerted physical and moral pressure on them.
A total of 35 individuals were brought to the internal affairs authorities in connection with these cases, and more than 100 search operations were conducted. Weapons and ammunition were seized.
"It is worth noting that since the beginning of the year, during efforts to suppress the activities of criminal groups in the city of Shymkent, more than 30 units of firearms and traumatic weapons have been seized, including one Kalashnikov rifle, 15 sawn-off shotguns, 11 pistols, two Winchesters, and more than a thousand rounds of ammunition. The work to ensure the principle of Law and Order in the regions is under special control," said Kuandyk Alpys, the representative of the Department of Combating Organized Crime of MIA.
