Tengrinews.kz – Officers of the Organized Crime Control Department of the Almaty Police Department, together with the National Security Committee (NSC) and the Prosecutor’s Office, have detained a group of individuals suspected of committing a series of serious crimes, including extortion of large sums of money, according to Polisia.kz.
Police shared details of one episode from the group's criminal "career" in which the suspects are allegedly involved.
"The perpetrators used physical violence and threats against a foreign citizen, illegally held him in a rented apartment, and under pressure took possession of 5 million tenge," said Kuandyk Alpys, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Organized Crime Control Department.
There were also documented instances of illegal possession of firearms and the group's involvement in unlawful conflicts.
"A total of 25 searches were conducted, resulting in the seizure of seven pistols, ammunition, bladed weapons, and narcotic substances. Criminal cases have been initiated for all identified offenses. All suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility," Kuandyk Alpys concluded.
