Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Ust-Kamenogorsk contacted the police and reported that pets were being kept in inappropriate conditions at one of the city's pet stores. Law enforcement officers inspected the store and discovered the illegal sale of rare turtles, according to Polisia.kz.

According to the police, three Central Asian tortoises were found in the store, and the sellers did not have the necessary permits for their keeping and sale.

"The Central Asian tortoise is listed as a vulnerable species in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and is protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. An administrative case has been initiated under the article "Illegal acquisition, sale, transportation, import, export, storage (keeping) of species of wild animals and plants, their parts or derivatives." The materials have been forwarded to the East Kazakhstan Regional Forestry and Wildlife Inspection for further investigation," the agency reported.
