Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a nationwide operation from September 22 to 26, targeting the legal circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances, precursors and toxic chemicals, Polisia.kz reported.
As part of the “Darmek” operation, authorities uncovered numerous violations in both the medical and industrial sectors. Police launched 11 criminal cases involving medical workers and recorded 278 administrative offenses. In total, about 7,000 narcotic medicines and 80 tons of toxic dual-use substances were seized.
In the healthcare sector, more than 190 violations of administrative law were identified. Cases were filed against 202 medical workers, with authorities confiscating around 40,000 narcotic tablets, 290,000 psychotropic pills and 236,000 ampoules. A total of 519 medical institutions were inspected.
In industry, 60 violations were found, with 2,000 tons of precursors restricted from circulation and 20 legal entities held accountable. Checks covered 159 enterprises and 734 vehicles.
Authorities also uncovered large-scale smuggling and underground sales:
- In Aktobe Region, over 80 tons of toxic substances were illegally imported by rail from China without a license, worth 86 million tenge.
- In East Kazakhstan Region, a company was caught selling prescription-only drugs including Pregabalin, Zonik and Alisa over the counter, with more than 35,000 pills seized.
- In West Kazakhstan Region, a woman was detained for illegally selling psychotropic drugs without a license.
- In Karaganda Region, police found 82 packages of Tropicamide, Pregabalin and Medazepam in a car traveling from Astana to Karaganda, worth over 240,000 tenge.
The Interior Ministry reminded that violations of regulations on the legal circulation of narcotics, psychotropics, precursors and toxic substances carry both administrative and criminal liability.
