A Kazakhstan student who used to study in one of Guangzhou universities in the south of China is currently serving a life sentence in China for possession and distribution of hard drugs, Megapolis writes. The magazine does not provide much details about the student or his case. According to Megapolis, 6 Kazakhstan citizens were arrested for drugs in China last year. Besides, Chinese migration police deported 6 Kazakhstan students who violated laws in 2011 and 3 such students this year. According to education advisor of Kazakhstan Embassy to China Murat Ismagambetov, academic performance of Kazakhstan students leaves much to be desired. Fights, drink-driving, illegal entrepreneurship: these are the common things for Kazakhstan students in China. The embassy representative told that last summer a Kazakhstan student had a car accident when driving an electric scooter. As a result he spent a month in coma, part of his skull was resected, he had two brain surgeries and was sent back home. Chinese Education Ministry says that there are over 8 thousand Kazakhstan citizens studying in China. Only 2,900 of them are registered in the consulate of Kazakhstan. According to the diplomats, this happens because many Kazakhstan citizens provide incomplete or incorrect information about themselves. Besides, many tourist companies currently offer to send anyone abroad for studies. However, they frequently forget to introduce the students to the rules of conduct in foreign countries. In spring 2011 Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry announced that four Kazakhstan citizens were sentenced to life imprisonment for drugs trafficking in China. Initially the media even wrote that they were sentenced to capital punishment but later the Ministry refuted the information and confirmed that they received life prison terms.
