Tengrinews.kz — A large-scale special operation to stop a transnational scheme of involving citizens in drug-related crimes was carried out by Kazakhstan’s Interior Ministry together with foreign law enforcement agencies. As a result, dozens of suspects were detained, according to Polisia.kz.
According to the agency, the organizers of the criminal network were located outside the country. Through online platforms, messaging apps, and social media, they posted advertisements for supposedly high-paying jobs. In reality, citizens were being recruited to take part in illegal drug trafficking.
Coordination was carried out through specially created call centers. Their staff selected recruits, briefed them, and managed the activities of so-called drug couriers.
Detentions in the regions
During the operation, which was conducted in 11 regions of Kazakhstan, 40 people were detained. Of them, 11 were arrested on suspicion of direct involvement in drug distribution.
Another 9 people were held administratively liable and arrested for 10 days for using prohibited substances.
Seized evidence
Law enforcement agencies seized synthetic drugs, computer equipment, smartphones, bank cards, and electronic data storage devices. These materials are of significant interest to the investigation.
Investigation continues
Operational measures made it possible to identify the organizers and active participants in the criminal scheme. Work is currently underway to detain them and bring them to criminal responsibility.
