Tengrinews.kz -Kuandyk Bishimbayev, the former Minister of National Economy sentenced to 24 years in prison, has recently been transferred from the pre-trial detention center in Astana to a correctional facility. He will be able to earn between 25,000 and 200,000 tenge(53-425 USD) in prison.
According to the Committee of the Criminal Executive System of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the labor of imprisoned individuals in Kazakhstan is compensated in two ways: hourly and piecework.
Under the hourly payment system, prisoners are paid based on an established tariff rate or salary for the actual time worked. With piecework pay, inmates earn money for each unit of work completed or product manufactured.
"The average salary for a convicted individual at penal correction system enterprises or in business ranges from 25,000 to 200,000 tenge," says the committee.
The committee also noted that priority is given to the employment of prisoners with court orders for compensation. Monthly deductions from their wages are made in accordance with the law (at least 50 percent of the salary or other income). Thus, the restitution of damages directly depends on the earnings of the inmates.
Earlier, it was reported that Bishimbayev might be employed in the state enterprise RGP "Enbek" in wood and metal processing.
