Tengrinews.kz — Extradition of a Kazakh citizen sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai is not being considered at this stage, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Mazhilis, he was asked whether the Kazakh citizen convicted in Dubai would be extradited.
“This is a decision of the Dubai court of first instance. An appeal has been filed, there is a procedure, so there is no talk of extradition for now. The priority is to complete the entire judicial process, after which a decision will be made,” Alibek Bakayev said.
According to him, the issue will be resolved in accordance with the legislation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Lawyers and the Consulate General of Kazakhstan are currently handling the matter.
“The Consulate General will certainly provide assistance, because this is our citizen,” the deputy minister added.
According to the official, the relatives of the convicted Kazakh citizen have not contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Context
Earlier it became known that a 22-year-old Kazakh citizen had been sentenced to life imprisonment in the UAE. According to the Foreign Ministry, on March 18, 2026, a Dubai court of first instance found him guilty of a number of serious crimes and sentenced him to life imprisonment, as well as a fine. The Kazakh citizen has filed an appeal, and the verdict has not yet entered into legal force. The Embassy of Kazakhstan has sent an official request to the competent authorities of the UAE.
Earlier, the man’s relatives told the Ak Zhaiyk portal that he had gone to the UAE for work in 2024 and worked there as a driver. The family previously told journalists that they do not believe in his guilt and think he may have been a victim of false accusations.
Some media outlets link the case to an attack on a villa in Dubai on New Year’s Eve 2025, where Finiko co-founder Eduard Sabirov allegedly lived.
