Ablyazov's lawyers still haven't disclosed his whereabouts to court

Law firm Addleshaw Goddard that represents former chairman of BTA Bank Mukhtar Ablyazov could be asked to explain to London's High Court its failure to disclose the information about its client, The Lawyer writes. Earlier the court gave the firm until February 17, 2012 to disclose “all the historic and current contact details, including, but without limitation to, postal and email addresses and all telephone numbers and Skype account details which they hold for the first defendant [Ablyazov]”. Although the firm disclosed some of the client's information, the lawyers of Hogan Lovells, representing BTA Bank, insist that the lawyers of Addleshaw Goddard know more than they say. Hogan Lovells is going to apply for the second court's order to disclose additional information about Ablyazov. Ex-chairman of BTA Bank is accused of embezzlement of $4.5 billion. Kazakhstan is requesting his extradition for fraud and syphoning off the bank's money via dummy companies. On February 16 London’s High Court sentenced Ablyazov to 22 months in prison for contempt of court. “He must be taken into custody immediately,” judge Nigel Teare said. This ruling was made on the motion on contempt of court filed by BTA Bank. The defendant did not attend the hearing. Later the Court decided to deprive the former chairman of BTA Bank of his right to defend in court , if he does not give in to British court by March 9.
