Tengrinews.kz — A Ukrainian woman suspected of trafficking in human organs has been extradited to Kazakhstan from Poland.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the woman is suspected of involvement in a transnational organized criminal group in 2017–2018 that carried out the illegal buying and selling of human organs.
“Her role was to find and arrange meetings between donors and recipients, ensure secrecy, and provide organizational support for the operations involving the purchase, sale, and transplantation of organs,” the agency said.
It is reported that members of the group, operating both in Kazakhstan and in other countries, organized 56 illegal organ deals involving living persons — that is, the purchase and sale of organs and their subsequent transplantation in healthcare institutions in Kazakhstan.
After the crime was committed, the suspect went into hiding and spent five years on an international wanted list. In March of this year, she was detained while attempting to cross the Polish border and, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, was extradited to Kazakhstan.
The suspect has now been placed in a pre-trial detention facility.
“The crimes she is accused of are punishable by imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years with confiscation of property,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
It is also noted that earlier, two members of this criminal organization were returned from Turkey and Russia.
