Tengrinews.kz - Over 20 people have been detained in Turkey following the mysterious death of 8-year-old Narin Guran in the Diyarbakır province, reports Haber Global.

The child went missing about three weeks ago in the Tavsantepe district after not returning home from religious classes. Initially, the family conducted their own search, but the father eventually sought police assistance.

The gendarmerie and police mobilized significant resources, including search dogs and units, to find the child. Thousands of vehicles in the region were checked, numerous citizens were interviewed, and the entire area was searched.

On Sunday, the girl's body was found in a bag by a stream, two kilometers from her home, covered with stones and branches.

An investigation is underway, with the case under the supervision of high-ranking officials. Several individuals from the child's family are under suspicion.

Reports indicate that the girl's uncle and mother used a special app to delete all WhatsApp messages and call records from their phones.

The Turkish General Prosecutor’s Office has requested that WhatsApp provide the deleted messages. Authorities believe these messages could hold crucial information about the girl's murder.

Turkish law enforcement noted that it may take some time to receive a response from WhatsApp’s developers.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his deep sorrow over the girl's death on social media.

"I want you to know that I will personally follow the court proceedings to ensure that those responsible for taking our Narin receive the harshest punishment they deserve," the President stated.

Initially, the family had prohibited media coverage of the investigation, but the Diyarbakır Criminal Court has lifted the ban.

The murder of the 8-year-old girl has become a national tragedy in Turkey.
