Kazakhstan is interested in objective investigation of Zhanaozen clashes, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Advisor to Kazakhstan President Yermukhamet Yertysbayev.

“The investigation will be very detailed, objective and as transparent as possible. The President said that independent experts will also be involved. This is a very important thing, so that nobody accuses us of being biased. On the contrary, we are very interested in an objective investigation, so that all the instigators of these crimes are identified and measures are taken against them,” Yertysayev said.

“I am deeply convinced that multination Kazakhstan society, all Kazakhstan citizens condemn Zhanaozen clashes and support the President in sincere condolences to the families of the victims. I know that Nursultan Nazarbayev has given instructions and is personally supervising, so that all the families of the victims get a material support in this very difficult time,” the Advisor said.

The oil-producing city Zhanaozen in Mangistau oblast faced a wave of public unrest on December 16. The death toll stands at 16. One person died in the clashes in Shetpe village December 17. The investigation is under way. Curfew has been announced in Zhanaozen.
