Tengrinews.kz – Turkish police have detained a Kazakh woman who had been hiding abroad for several years after stealing jewellery worth more than 156 million tenge, the Interior Ministry reported.

According to investigators, between December 2021 and June 2022 the woman worked as a sales assistant at a jewellery store in Astana, where she secretly stole items totaling over 156 million tenge before fleeing the country.

She was placed on an international wanted list and managed to evade capture for an extended period.

Following a request from Kazakhstan’s Interpol National Central Bureau, Istanbul police detained her on suspicion of committing theft under Part 4 of Article 188 of the Criminal Code.

On 27 November, with the assistance of Turkish law enforcement, the 33-year-old was extradited to Kazakhstan and placed in custody.
