Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan has disrupted the activities of six criminal groups in the Karaganda region involved in serious crimes, uncovering more than 40 cases of extortion.

According to the agency's press service, on October 15, the Organized Crime Control Department in the city of Shakhtinsk detained a youth group engaged in extorting local residents, including employees of Qarmet JSC, one of whom was a mixed martial arts coach.

Earlier this year, law enforcement detained members of other criminal groups in the cities of Temirtau, Saran, and Abai, who were also involved in serious crimes, as well as in the theft of goods and materials from Qarmet JSC facilities and extorting money from the company's employees.

"According to the data, over 100 individuals involved in these cases have been brought to the internal affairs agencies, 39 of whom have been arrested. Approximately 150 search operations have been conducted. Weapons and ammunition, as well as other physical evidence of their illegal activities, have been seized," reported Kuandyk Alpys, the representative of the Department of Combating Organized Crime of MIA.

He also noted that three criminal cases concerning 16 cases of serious crimes have already been sent to court.

"As a result of the crackdown on criminal groups in the region, more than 30 units of firearms and traumatic weapons have been seized, including 15 shotguns, eight sawed-off shotguns, four pistols, two rifles, an AK-47, as well as over a thousand rounds of ammunition," Alpys stated.

He emphasized that efforts to maintain law and order in the regions are ongoing.

Earlier, a Swiss citizen has been arrested for 20 days in Kazakhstan's Kyzylorda region for driving under the influence and causing a car accident.
