Tengrinews.kz – Since the beginning of the year, 38 criminal cases have been registered against members of criminal structures on charges of creating, leading and participating in organized criminal groups, including those of a transnational nature. This was reported by the Interior Ministry.

At the same time, criminal cases involving the legalization of property obtained by criminal means are being investigated. Police have identified more than 270 cases of extortion, including against entrepreneurs and in educational institutions. In the regions, the activities of more than 30 criminal groups involved in serious and especially serious crimes have been stopped.

“More than 160 representatives of the criminal underworld are being brought to criminal liability for committing various crimes. Particular attention is being paid to preventing crimes that threaten the safety of citizens and businesses. Police have identified more than 270 cases of extortion, including against entrepreneurs and in educational institutions. During operational-search activities in the country’s regions, the activities of more than 30 criminal groups involved in serious and especially serious crimes were suppressed,” said Kuandyk Alpys, representative of the Interior Ministry’s Department for Combating Organized Crime.

The Interior Ministry also reports that restoring order in places of detention is a priority. Together with the Committee of the Penal Correction System, more than 50 criminal cases have been registered over disobedience to lawful demands by prison administrations and threats made by convicts from the criminal underworld against employees.

At the initiative of the Interior Ministry, nearly 500 individuals categorized as so-called thieves-in-law and other foreign criminal leaders have been barred from entering Kazakhstan.

“As part of the implementation of the Law ‘On Combating Human Trafficking,’ more than 80 crimes have been identified. Victims have been provided with the necessary social, legal and psychological assistance, and protection of their lawful rights and interests has been ensured,” the Interior Ministry’s press service said.

The ministry emphasized that it will continue working to suppress the activities of organized criminal groups, protect citizens’ rights and ensure that offenders are held inevitably accountable.
