Kazakhstan will be cooperating with the US General Electric Transportation in the O&G and in production of passenger locomotives and their engines, Kazakhstan President’s Press Service reports. “As of today, over 200 locomotives have been produced (…) another stage is production of passenger locomotives and their engines (…) besides, the Company will be contributing to the country’s O&G sector” the statement quotes President Nazarbayev as saying at the talks with Lorenzo Simonelli, President & CEO GE Transportation, at the threshold of the 26th sitting of the Foreign Investors Council in Astana. “Localization is of great importance for us as Kazakhstan is interested in furthering cooperation with GE”, Nazarbayev is quoted as saying. Head of State emphasized that one of the major vectors of cooperation is construction of a plant to produce medical equipment, water treatment projects and nature preservation projects as part of prep works for the forthcoming EXPO-2017 in Astana. In his turn, Lorenzo Simonelli said that the Company is ready to participate in the EXPO-2017 as a partner. The Company’s representation office was launched in Almaty in 1994. As of today it employs over 200 people. Kazakhstan’s capital city Astana is home to a facility producing GE Evolution locomotives. GE Transportation is a leading producer of diesel locomotives in the world. Its headcount of staff across the globe stands at 12 000 people.
