The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. has announced the expansion of its luxury hotel chain in the CIS with the development of the first hotel in Kazakhstan, an oil-rich post-Soviet republic in Central Asia. The 145 room hotel, owned by a subsidiary of Capital Partners L.L.C., is located in the 37 storey Esentai Tower within the mixed use Esentai Park development project in Almaty, the biggest city of Kazakhstan, which includes an extensive shopping mall, a Fitness Club and residential complexes. The hotel, located in the center of the city, will offer Club and Suite accommodation together with over 10,000 square feet of meeting facilities. “We are honored to partner with Capital Partners to manage this exciting property”, Herve Humler, President and Chief Operating Officer, is quoted in the company's press-release as saying. “Almaty is an important business center in the region and we are delighted to now be able to offer The Ritz-Carlton experience to our global business travelers visiting this city,” he continued. “We are delighted to be working again with Ritz-Carlton. We believe that the partnership between Capital Partners and Ritz-Carlton, which has already worked so well in Moscow, will help create another exceptional hotel in an exceptional city”, Burak Oymen, co-founder of Capital Partners, commented. Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan and the nation's largest city, with a population of nearly 1.5 million. This represents approximately 9% of the country's population. Despite losing its status of the capital city to Astana back in 1997, Almaty remains the major commercial and cultural center of Kazakhstan. The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty will be opening late 2013. Esentai Tower is a mixed-use office and hotel facility that is the centerpiece of the Esentai Park Master Plan. The 168-meter-tall, completed in 2008, the Esentai Tower is ranked as the second tallest in Kazakhstan and the first tallest in Almaty, according to Skyscrapercenter.com. The Ritz-Carlton is a brand of luxury hotels and resorts with 81 properties located in major cities and resorts in 27 countries worldwide.
