Sberbank Chief Executive Officer German Gref refused to comment on probability of Russia’s Sberbank to purchase Kazakhstan’s BTA Bank, Tengrinews.kz reports. “There are things that have nothing to do with the Bank (…) We do not comment on clients’ transactions and on our partners. This has nothing to do with the Bank’s transparency. If you let me, I’d rather abstain from comments as the issue is not quite related to our economy or the inside situation in Sberbank”, German Gref said at a press-conference in Almaty October 14. “It would be strange if BTA Head started commenting on the current financial state or another aspect of Sberbank. I guess he would be surprised if I started commenting on BTA Bank’s performance”, German Gref answered when answering a question related to the current state of BTA. May 30 Tengrinews.kz quoted German Gref as saying that the deal on purchasing BTA was “probabilistic”.
