Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund will cut over 4,000 jobs in two years, Tengrinews.kz reports. "Administrative-managerial personnel of the group of companies will be staffed with 2,032 people in total in 2012 and 2,179 in 2013. Overall reduction of the general administrative costs will make 6.5 billion tenge ($44 million), while the salaries fund will decrease by over 5.5 billion tenge ($37 million)," chairman of Samruk-Kazyna Umirzak Shukeyev said at the meeting with journalists. According to Shukeyev, all the issues related to optimization and jobs cuts have been approved and job cutting protocols have been signed by all top managers of the fund's affiliated companies. For example, 623 jobs will be cut in KazMunaiGas in 2012. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (national railroad company) will cut 135 jobs, 17 percent of jobs, or 1,815 people, will be additionally cut in Kazakhstan Temir Zholy group of companies. KazAtomProm will cut 235 jobs in 2012 and another 239 jobs in 2013-2014. 286 people will leave KazakhTelecom this year and about the same number in 2013. Samruk-Energo will cut 280 jobs by the end of 2012, 253 people will leave Kazpochta and 120 jobs will be cut in KazEngineering. According to Shukeyev, the job cuts will affect managerial personnel. This process has to be treated calmly, he said. According to him, "there is no mechanic approach to the cuts". As for those working in production facilities, job cuts are not planned in the near time. However, if management discovers that there are excessive people at production facilities, additional cuts are possible.
