Tengrinews.kz – National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov has announced the launch date for a unified QR code in Kazakhstan. Earlier, it had been promised that the system would be launched this year.

According to Timur Suleimenov, speaking at a plenary session of the Senate, Kazakhstanis will be able to pay using a QR code from any bank within a unified system as early as next month.

“This year, starting July 19, a unified interbank QR payment system will be launched. Thanks to the support of Parliament, a legal framework for launching a new sector of the economy was created on May 1 of this year,” the head of the National Bank said.

In April, Suleimenov had already mentioned the approximate timeline for launching the unified QR code but did not name a specific date.

“We have examined this process in sufficient detail and depth. Our own team is working on it. Banks have made fairly large investments in their own technologies, separately within their own ecosystems, and in their own security tools for these QR payments. Now these systems need to be integrated so that they become available to one another in a secure way,” Suleimenov said at the time.

As a reminder, late last year, the National Bank planned for the unified QR code system to become fully operational by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

In 2025, Parliament adopted the Law “On Banks and Banking Activities” and related amendments on the regulation and development of the financial market. The law provides for the introduction of a national digital financial infrastructure — a system of interbank mobile payments and a unified QR code.
