Central Bank HQ should be located in Astana to secure close cooperation with the Government and other public bodies, Newskaz.ru reports, citing its Governor Kairat Kelimbetov at a press-conference in Almaty. According to him, the decision on where the Bank’s HQ is located is the prerogative of the country’s President. “As of today, no such decision has been made”, Mr. Kelimbetov said, adding that since he was appointed to be the Bank’s Governor he had had to fly to Astana from Almaty, where the HQ is currently located, 8 times. Should the decision be made to move the HQ, it will take 3-4 years to implement the decision. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that the newly elected Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Kairat Kelimbetov would be managing the Almaty-based Central Bank from Astana, the country’s capital city.
