Air Astana will purchase three Boeing 787 Dreamliners by 2017, Tengrinews.kz reports citing director of Samruk-Kazyna and chairman of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Air Astana Nurzhan Baidauletov as saying at the briefing on development of transport infrastructure of Samruk-Kazyna in Astana.

“The company’s fleet currently consists of 27 planes. 23 of them are in operational leasing and 4 will be owned by the company by the end of the year. Following a decision of the company's shareholders an order has been placed for 4 Boeing-767 and 3 Boeing-787 known Dreamliners. They will be purchased in 2013-2014 and their delivery will start in2017,” Nurzhan Baidauletov said.

The company will own 15 more aircrafts by 2017. They are going to be used for new international and regional routes. According to Nurzhan Baidauletov, the plan is to launch the flights from Almaty to Saigon, Kiev, Islamabad, Ashgabat, Ufa, Mumbai, Novosibirsk, Sochi, Male, Warsaw by 2017. The company will also launch flights from Astana to Oman, Tbilisi, Ulaan Baator, Paris, Bishkek, Prague, Semei and Bangkok, as well as the flights from Atyrau to Moscow and Milan.

“We think that the shareholders will not change in the nearest time. The company’s IPO has been delayed. We cannot sell even 5-6 percent from our controlling share. We will lose a lot if this happens,” Nurzhan Baidauletov said at the press-conference.

According to him, the company has opened its own shops to locally repair the parts that used to be repaired abroad.

“In 2012 we have opened shops for repair of kitchen equipment, brakes, freight containers, as well as a shop to do small and medium repairs of the aircraft structural parts. All shops were audited. The plan is to construct a full technical center on basic maintenance and repairs of the aircrafts used both in Kazakhstan and in other Central Asian countries,” Nurzhan Baidauletov said.

Three airports in Kazakhstan have been reconstructed: Pavlodar, Aktobe and Atyrau. The runway strip was repaired and flash equipment was modernized in Pavlodar. New stairways were purchased and the building was reconstructed. Aktobe airport’s terminal was reconstructed, the runway strip was repaired to accept aircrafts without limitations and increase the airport’s capacity up to 500 passenger per hour. New 3,000m-long and 45m-wide runway strip was introduced in Atyrau. According to Nurzhan Baidauletov, this strip will last for at least the next 20 years.
