Kazakhstani filmmaker Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s The Owners has been selected for Busan International Film Festival, Tengrinews reports.
Critically acclaimed The Owners will be presented at the A Window on Asian Cinema section of the Asia’s biggest film festival.
Yerzhanov’s film premiered at Cannes where it was praised by film critics. It was later included into the Top 10 films presented at the Cannes by Geoff Andrew. The Owners also was presented at film festivals in Canada, Slovakia, and Holland.
The Owners film draws an absurd yet dramatic picture of two families fighting over a house. Two brothers who have a sickly little sister and the mother insane with grief on their hands are being evicted from their house by a local villager and his relative, a district policeman. But the brothers, despite of not having any relatives to protect them, are not willing to leave the house without a fight.
The 19th Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 2 to 11.
