World premier of a Kazakhstani film Walnut-tree (Zhangak tal) directed by Yerlan Nurmukhambetov will take place during the 20th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, Tengrinews reports.

Nurmukhambetov began filming in September 2014 in Lenger, Southern Kazakhstan. The total filming time was about one month.

The idea behind Walnut-tree resembles a satire about inner relations of a family. "The story is very simple. A simple lifecycle is portrayed in a cinematographic form. This film is rather a satire than a comedy. It is full of kindness and it shows that people need to be more kind to each other and forget about exasperation," the director said.

The film was written by Nurmuhambetov himself who lived in an aul  (village) for sometime. In this film, the director attempted at bringing the village atmosphere to the screen. Nurmukhambetov set no clear protagonists but worked with multiple storylines instead.

The director's choice was to use actors from Lenger theatre and local people for the main roles. In addition, actors from the satirical theatre Shanshar were invited. For almost anyone involved in the film, Walnut-tree became the debut on a big screen.

The film debuts in the New Currents category. The film festival will take place from October 1 to October 10.

Busan International Film Festival is the biggest festival in Asia held annually since 1996. It specializes in showcasing new films and projects made by young and aspiring filmmakers.
