Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s The Owners has been selected for the 22nd International Slovakian film festival Art FilmFest, Tengrinews reports.
The film of the young Kazakhstani filmmaker that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival presents a family in the middle of a real estate drama in a tragic and yet satirical manner.
The protagonist Jon and his little brother Yerbol and sister Aliya have to leave their house in Almaty. Fortunately, their deceased mother devised a house in a distant village where they eventually set off. When it seems that all misfortunes are over, upon their arrival to the village, the family stumbles upon a relative of the local authority who has been living in their house illegally for over a decade and does not want to leave the house.
The Owners will be also screened during the International Moscow Film Festival that takes place from June 19th to 28th.
The film was selected for the Special Screenings of the 67th Cannes Film Festival. It was also included into the Cannes Top 10 list by the well-known film critic Geoff Andrew.
