"Kieli Meken" documentary film frame.
Kazakhstan-made Kieli Meken (National Heritage) movie was nominated for the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards Festival, an international festival of corporate films, online media and TV documentaries in three categories, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Astana city’s Akimat (city authorities). The movie was filmed on an order of Bayterek Corporate Fund in 2011 prior to the 20th anniversary of independence of Kazakhstan. It was nominated for Best Documentary, Best Directing and Best Soundtrack categories. Besides, the movie was awarded with a Special Jury Diploma. “The sponsor of the Festival, Fujitsu company, asked to screen Kieli Meken movie during the festival and also at the awarding ceremony of Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards Festival that was held on October 18-19,” the press-release reads. “We didn’t plan to participate in the contest. We just placed the movie on YouTube and the Festival’s selectors contacted us. This is how we got into the Cannes Documentary Festival. There is a special Russian-speaking group in the Festival’s team and they are engaged into CIS documentary films selection. We are very pleased with the fact that we were nominated and that we became the first team from Kazakhstan. The selectors have chosen us from 660 movies and this is a good result not only for ourselves, but also for Kazakhstan film production,” Gauhar Kerimova, Kieli Meken script writer, said.
